U.S. Navy - Agency Wide MACHINIST SUPERVISOR I in United States

Summary You will serve as a MACHINIST SUPERVISOR I in the DEPARTMENT OF NAVY to include work sites of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example: if you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A. Responsibilities You will use of various types of conventional and/or computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools and their attachments to perform machining operations in the repair and/or manufacture of parts from raw stock. You will determine work procedures, machine, tools, equipment, and attachments to be used; proper type and size of raw stock, sequence of matching operations, and the speeds and feeds necessary to attain the required finishes and tolerances. You will work from blueprints, sketches, work orders, models of parts to be made, or other specifications. You will determine which machine tool and/or attachments to used for each operation to be performed on each machine and make new job setups on different types of equipment involving accurate alignment in order to maintain specified tolerances. You will establish dimensions, chasing threads or machining angular surfaces; locating and marking surfaces and angles, locating reference points, or other layout work necessary to facilitate job setups on conventional or CNC machine tools. You will use conventional machine tools and their attachments to perform machining processes requiring special adaption of the equipment or processes for which they were not specifically designed. You will, through the use of special or improvised tools, fixtures, and setups to machine unusual surface configurations, use machine tools and attachments on curved surfaces requiring machine feeds in different planes simultaneously. You will produce the desired cuts and finishes on various metals and other materials such as aluminum, brass, bronze, high carbon and alloy steels, chrome, nickel, titanium, molybdenum, super alloys, nylon, rubber, plastics, teflon, etc. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
