Job Description

As a senior level attorney, the incumbent is expected to routinely handle sensitive, high-profile, serious, or complex legal assignments that have a significant impact with the Trials Section. The incumbent, with minimal supervision by the Division Chief, the First Assistant, or Section Head will prosecute cases involving, but not limited to murder, police misconduct, and sexual assault. These cases often involve the most serious criminal offenders. The incumbent will make charging decisions, conduct preliminary examinations, evidentiary hearings, and trials. Additionally, the incumbent will draft briefs, motions, other pleadings involving complex legal issues. The incumbent is expected to routinely handle cases that garner great public interest and media attention. As a corollary to the duties above, the incumbent will assist law enforcement with criminal investigations. The incumbent will assist in formal or informal mentoring or training of less experienced staff and serve as a resource person for the Department. Given the expected knowledge and experience required for the position, the incumbent operates with a high level of autonomy.

Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law.

Experience

Four years of post-bar admission legal experience.

Vacation and Sick Leave:Eligible full-time employees receive between15 and 35 personal daysand13 sick daysper year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.

Military Pay Differential:Employees in the guard or reserves may also qualify for supplemental pay benefits if miliary pay during qualifying duty is less than normal state pay.
