County of Jones Social Work Supervisor III in Trenton, North Carolina

Position: Social Work Supervisor III Description of Job Duties:

  • The primary purpose of this position is to structure, coordinate, administer and supervise Child Welfare and Adult Services offered by the Jones County Department of Social Services.
  • These include child and adult protective services investigations, in home services, permanency planning/foster care services, adoption, foster home licensing and re-licensing, court ordered home studies interstate placement supervision, guardianship, community alternatives programs, in-home aide services, adult care home monitoring, special assistance, work first employment, and child daycare.
  • The Social Work Supervisor III responsibilities include multiple service programs in a small agency and the employee may carry a small caseload. Organizationally, this position is located within the Adult and Children's Services Division and is under the direct supervision of the Social Work Program Manager.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position will review program objectives and service delivery needs with staff and formulate specific goals and objectives for the assigned program area.
  • This position will be responsible for assigning cases to staff and maintaining workload balance.
  • This position will manage the day-to-day operations for service delivery of the division and will assist to establish mutual understanding and agreement to unit goals and ensure that staffs have adequate resources to carry out mandates of unit, i.e. appropriate training for competence.
  • This position will monitor the work of subordinate staff through case reviews, progress reports, conferences and informal discussions to assure compliance with operational standards and established policies.
  • This position will maintain unit morale by communicating confidence and enthusiasm, by sharing responsibility and providing sanction for difficult decisions, by providing opportunity for ventilation and by encouraging peer support and consultation

Minimum Training and Experience

  • Master's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or
  • A bachelor's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or
  • A master's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or
  • A bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or
  • A bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

  • This position is also mandatory to work in emergency shelters in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
  • This employee will be required to perform other duties as assigned in small office.
