Position Description
TheDepartment of Theatre and Dance (https://www.theatreanddance.txst.edu/) at Texas State University seeks an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor of Directing to start in fall 2024. New hire will join a nationally recognized department with a dynamic faculty dedicated to a collaborative and innovative approach to teaching graduate and undergraduate students.
Responsibilities:
Teach graduate and undergraduate directing students
Advise graduate and undergraduate directors on department productions
Occasional directing of departmental productions not to exceed one per year
Maintain an active record of professional scholarly and/or creative activity
Recruit graduate directing students
Participate in oversight of the graduate directing area
Provide academic and career advising to graduate directing students
Collaborate with other Program Heads to facilitate interdisciplinary opportunities
This position is subject to the availability of funds.
Required Qualifications
Required qualifications for Assistant Rank:
MFA in Theater or equivalent terminal degree
University teaching experience as a faculty member or graduate teaching assistant
Recent professional and/or significant academic directing credits
Required qualifications for Associate Rank:
5 years of university teaching experience
5 year active record of professional and/or significant academic directing
Active record of university and/or professional service
Required qualifications for Professor Rank:
10 years of university teaching experience
10 year active record of professional and/or significant academic directing
Active record of university and/or professional service
The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on the university and College of Fine Arts and Communication established standards.
Preferred Qualifications
MFA in Theater Directing
University teaching experience in an MFA directing program
Successful record of curriculum development
Organizational and management skills
Successful record of mentorship
