JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Description:

The Congenital Heart Disease Center at Pennsylvania State University’s Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is looking for an intern to help develop a mobile application for our Congenital Heart Disease Transition Program. We are seeking a candidate with engineering and maintenance experience. The primary focus is to design and implement the application with user interfaces and features. The candidate will be working with our clinical teams, and in that role, they will be expected to write code and cleanly organize the application. The optimal candidate will ensure solid application performance and excellent user experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Application design

  • Application development

  • New feature development and user interfaces from wireframe models

  • Ensuring best performance and user experience of the application

  • Fixing bugs and performance problems

  • Writing clean, readable, testable code

Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge about mobile application development. (whole process, from first line of code to publishing in store(s).)

  • Deep knowledge of Android, iOS, and similar mobile app platforms

  • Proficiency with writing automated tests such as Junit, Mocha, and similar

  • Experience with profiling and debugging mobile applications

  • Strong knowledge of architectural patterns and choosing the best solution for the app (i.e. MVP, MVC, etc)

  • Familiarity with Git

  • Familiarity with push notifications

  • Firm understanding of mobile app guidelines on each platform and being aware of their differences

  • Proficiency in app language

The internship will run for up to ten weeks during the summer. The hours are 30 hours a week, Monday through Thursday 9:30- 4:30 with occasional Fridays for a total of up to 300 hours. Interns will work out of the LaunchBox or other University Park Campus location.

  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History

  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
