Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.

The Institute for the Built Environment ( IBE ) is housed within the College of Health and Human Sciences at Colorado State University ( CSU ). IBE is an interdisciplinary group of faculty, students and staff who focus on social and environmental sustainability through the built environment. IBE specializes in program development and management for public and private sector clients for individual buildings, whole organizations, organizational programs, and at the neighborhood or community scale. We provide thought leadership, services, research, and education centered around healthy green buildings, facilitation, community engagement, custom sustainability programs, social science, and regenerative development.

Position Summary

The Institute for the Built Environment seeks applications throughout the year from individuals who are interested in obtaining a temporary (i.e., time-limited) Research Associate I or II position within the unit.

Required Job Qualifications

Research Associate Iapplicants applying for such a position must hold at a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree plus one year experience in an appropriate discipline, such as construction management, landscape architecture, civil engineering or another design and construction related field.

Research Associate IIapplicants should hold a minimum of a Bachelors degree plus four years related experience in stated disciplines above OR a Master’s degree in a related field with at least 2 years of related experience.

  • Experience with 3rd party rating systems and related credentials (e.g., LEED , WELL Building Standard, etc.)

  • Demonstrated project management abilities, especially working with diverse and interdisciplinary teams.

  • Experience in sustainable/green/healthy built environments

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

All applicants should have demonstrated experience in all aspects of day-to-day project management for complex and diverse projects, including coordination of project teams,

organization of data and/or research collection, and orchestration, preparation, and editing of deliverables. Additionally, all applicants should have demonstrated excellent written communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (esp. Word, Outlook, and Excel)

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability and interest in mentoring and managing junior staff and/or students

  • Graphic design capabilities and proficiency Adobe Creative Suite, or similar software

  • Successful management of sustainability services and/or programs

  • Facilitation experience

  • Professional consulting experience including project management software, detailed time tracking, and invoicing
