TITLE:Community Sponsorship Intern
LOCATION:Elizabeth, NJ
POSITION REPORTS TO:Community Sponsorship Coordinator
BACKGROUND:International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in more than 40 countries and over 20 U.S. cities, the IRC provides resettlement, education and empowerment support to refugees and displaced people.
SCOPE OF WORK:The Community Sponsorship Intern will support the program development and maintenance of the IRC NJ community sponsorship program. The Community Sponsorship intern will support community groups, faith-based organizations, and businesses in the welcoming and integration of refugees, help build awareness of and support for forcibly displaced populations and seed the larger landscape for community sponsorship in the US. The Community Sponsorship Intern will work directly with the Community Sponsorship Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
Manage collaboration and communication across co-sponsor groups
Cultivate branded materials for training, public events, and community engagement
Coordinate and facilitate outreach to educate community groups, faith- based organizations, and businesses about the benefits of community sponsorship through presentations, newsletters, social media, and direct outreach.
Ensure accurate and compliant entry of case notes into data management system
Assist with program monitoring and evaluation
Conduct necessary screening for community groups
Other administrative, data, event and communication management tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Ability to work effectively in an environment that is multi-cultural and multi-lingual, experience using interpreters desired
Highly effective communication skills, demonstrating strong partnership skills, emotional intelligence, and situational awareness
Highly adaptable and flexible self-starter with ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others, juggle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Fluency in English; written and spoken
Working Environment:Standard office working environment with regular local travel within the service delivery area.
